About Maribelle De La Torre, Ph.D.

Dr. Maribelle De La Torre is a Licensed Psychologist in the States of Florida, Virginia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In 2004, she earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Carlos Albizu University. Dr. De La Torre completed an internship program at The Community Mental Health Clinic in Carlos Albizu. During her internship program she received specialized training in treating sexual abuse survivors. In 2012, she completed a postdoctoral training in Community Mental Health at Fairfax-Falls Church Community Service Board (CSB) in Virginia.

She began her career as a Professor in the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamon campus. After completing her postdoctoral training, she worked as Senior Therapist for the City of Alexandria Government in Virginia where she collaborated with the Health Department, School System, Court System, and Social Service. She has also served as consultant for Child Advocacy Center (CAC) collaborating with Child Protective Services and Law Enforcement. Additionally, throughout the years, Dr. De La Torre has been part of the Review Committee for the American Psychological Association, Minority Fellowship Program.

Dr. De La Torre has over sixteen years of experience working in multiple settings including impatient medical settings, community mental health clinics, partial hospitalizations, and private practice. She has vast experience treating trauma including complex trauma, violence victims, and sexual abuse victims. She has been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (TFBCBT), evidenced based treatment for children.

Currently, Dr. De La Torre works as a consultant and Clinical Psychologist for Medoptions, Inc. providing in-patient services to different rehabilitation and long-term care facilities in the Tampa Metropolitan Area. She has also joined New Tampa Interventional Pain & Sports Medicine, where she will be collaborating with the clinical staff providing psychological services for individuals and families. She will be offering bilingual psychotherapy services to all ages (English and Spanish). Her clinical interests include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, immigration and acculturation issues, pain management, caregiver support, and life transitions such as grief and loss.

Dr. De La Torre enjoys working with youth, adults, and families. Through the use of a psychodynamic approach and cognitive behavioral techniques, she has helped and continues to help patients in developing a productive life, and being capable of forming healthy, trusting, and loving relationships.
